EthnoGuessr: Identify the origin of ethnic groups based on displayed faces

Generated images show faces with the average features and characteristics of different ethnic groups. The player’s task is to guess on a map where the people with these features historically originate from.

The website offers multiple game modes. The two most popular are the classic mode, where players must identify 10 randomly selected groups that change daily, and the challenge mode, where players need to pinpoint 38 locations. Additionally, players can try quizzes limited to specific regions, such as East Asia, Europe, or the Middle East.

The gameplay mirrors GeoGuessr. After viewing an image, players place a marker on the map and receive points based on the accuracy of their answer. After each round, a brief note about the specific ethnic group and its geographic distribution is displayed.

How to play?

  1. The game uses anthropological data from the website humanphenotypes.net. You will be shown male and female facial averages from a given ethnic group. Your job is to guess on the map where they are from, historically.
  2. You will score points proportional to how close you are to the primary map region.
  3. After making your guess, the ethnic group’s name and some information will be displayed for educational purposes.
  4. Every day there will be a new set of 10 races to play!
