The situation related to hunger and malnutrition is one of the greatest challenges of the current world. The scale of this problem has been shown by the hunger map prepared by the UN Agency – The World Food Program.
Despite new technologies in agriculture that improve and facilitate cultivation, advanced machines, developed supply chains, or the constantly repeated slogan about the significant surplus of food production compared to its consumption, the problem of hunger still exists and in many places is even getting worse.
The website https://hungermap.wfp.org/ prepared as part of the activities of the World Food Program (WFP) allows for the analysis of the scale and degree of prevalence of the phenomenon of hunger. Although hunger is mainly associated with poor countries or in a state of disaster caused by, for example, war, in highly developed countries cases related to hunger and malnutrition also occur, often on a much larger scale than we think.
The visualization has been divided into 5 main thematic categories to which the displayed data relate. Information can be presented on a world map or in a view for a specific country. Each category is decorated with charts and graphics, allowing for a better understanding of the specifics of the problem.
According to the data provided on the website, currently 20 countries in the world are struggling with very high levels of hunger. These are mainly African countries, which are at war or located in areas with very unfavorable conditions for agriculture. This continent also has the most cases of death due to malnutrition and the largest percentage of the population living in areas with a deficit in rainfall. The situation is not much better in the Middle East.
