Map of US military bases in the world

The United States has over 800 military bases in more than 80 countries around the world.

The United States maintains a vast network of foreign military bases that are used for a variety of purposes – training, logistics and intelligence. They also play a significant role in demonstrating American power and exerting political and military influence around the world. The annual cost of maintaining these facilities ranges from $100 billion to $250 billion.

On the World BEYOND War map, we can view the locations of 867 American outposts outside the United States. We have the ability to filter by country, political system, opening date, number of staff or occupied land area. The largest number of U.S. military bases are in Europe, with over 200 units in Germany alone. Other major concentrations are in the Middle East, Asia and Africa.

The World Beyond War project has only mapped US military outposts. However, in future editions of the map, it is planned to add data on all foreign military bases maintained by all nations. Perhaps we will see how other military powers look like against the background of the USA… Russia, China or India.
