True Size of Anything

True Size of Anything

True Size of Anything is a website that allows you to compare different places or objects on a map to see their actual size.

The website allows you to compare different objects on the map. Additionally, a wide range of pre-defined objects, such as airplanes and animals, is available. You can also search for a specific object on the OSM map.

Thanks to the simple interface, users can enter the name of an object or its dimensions and then compare it to other structures, buildings, or natural formations. Importantly, the visualizations show real differences in scale—for example, you can see how much space the Eiffle Tower would take up if placed on Trafalgar Square in London, or how large the White House is compared to a football field.

Such tools have enormous educational value—they can be used in schools, media, and scientific presentations to provide a real-world context for the size of famous structures.

How to create an outline of a place?

  • Search – Search for a place by name, like “Washington State” or “Central Park”. Also works for addresses.
  • Magic Wand – Click anywhere on the map to magically select places with no names or smaller features.
  • Custom Area – Create a square of a specific size. Good if you’re like me and have no clue what an “acre” is.
  • Treasure – Choose from a list of special shapes, like Blue Whales and planes.
  • History – Re-use any areas you’ve previously added from your history list.

Important Features

  • Once an area is added to the map, you can drag it to relocate it for comparison.
  • Areas will maintain their actual size as you move them around the map.
  • Areas you’ve added will appear in your history for easy re-use.

The author of the website is Jac Chambers – spiring UX Designer and Engineer.
