In 2023 (data is still being completed), the US provided more than $56 billion in foreign aid to 203 countries. The funds were linked to more than 10,000 activities and programmes to support countries most in need.
According to the 2023 figures, Ukraine (over $16 billion), Israel, Jordan and Ethiopia were the largest recipients of financial assistance. Approximately 14% of the total amount donated went to military issues and the remaining funds to economic issues, including economic development, humanitarian aid, health, education or ecology. In terms of the main regions receiving aid, sub-Saharan Africa, North Africa and the Middle East led the way, with Europe also in the lead due to the war in Ukraine.
